The Soil and Water District Board, or Water Improvement District Board, is responsible for overseeing soil and watersheds within the district, and making plans and proposals to maintain and improve their quality.

School board members are elected for a term of four years. The school board is responsible for the organization and control of the district's public schools and is empowered to determine the policies necessary for the effective operation and the general improvement of the school system. A chair and vice-chair are elected annually by the School Board of Hillsborough County, at its organizational meeting held on the third Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

The Special Dependent District Board oversees a district in which a single city or a single county has the authority to either designate its own commission members as the board of the special district. The board is generally tasked with continued improvement, administration and maintenance of the district.
